Keyword Research Tool will help you research appropriate words and phrases to include in your webpage's body text to aid in promotion. Simply enter the sort of word of phrase you wish to be found under, and the tool will suggest some additional words and phrases you can think about using.

Hi,
When I go into adwords key word tools, and search for some keywords, I get sometimes the message that there is not enough data. What does it mean? :) Roseanne

That usually means that there have not been enough searches worthy of them telling you how many people have used that keyword or phrase. I wouldn't use it if there are not a lot of people searching. Keep it in a log book or in a word document on your computer for future use. You never know when it might come in handy! :)

Keep in mind that you are using keywords/phrases that visitors use to find their information. These are the ones you want to use :)

You want to pick out a phrase or keyword that has at least 300 searches. If it is any less then save it for later because you won't get a lot of traffic from it.

With the Google Keyword Tool... I personally go with ones that are between 1,000 and 3,000 searches... that is a pretty good number... but whatever works! :D

Don't forget to click on the far right to which ever means you are looking for. You can change it to phrase, exact, etc. This is always helpful :)

Keyword serch still confuses me, there are so many with so many results, I never know what to pick and how to go about it. Is it better to get one with a lot of results yet more comp, or less results and less traffic? Does anyone have any tips for me, I could really use some!

Katie:
Long tail keywords or keyword phrases are best because that will break down even further your 'target market' so to speak. Here is an example using making money online.
making money
making money online
making money online from home
making money online from home fast
See how you start out with one or two words and keep adding words to break it down further. You can even go further and see what your results come up with.
Keep us posted on how this goes or if you need further explanation. :)

I think wordtracker give me a lot better information and is easier to use then keyword discovery and it is certainly not cheap on the annual fee. I don't mind paying it though because it is the best money I have ever spent,

I wasn't aware they had a paid version. I know they used to have a free one. I will have to look into that myself. :)

Same Here! Been struggling through the keyword searches and really have no idea what would work and what will be a waste of time. I understand that some of it is guess work but I could use a tutorial that takes me through 5 or 6 examples and explains the train of thought behind the process. I would like to shorten the learning curve on this one. Any suggestions?

I agree Krisner, i battle with keyword search as well. I am not sure which order you should be choosing them.
If someone could give me a brief on how keyword search actually works perhaps my understanding of it would help me to be more efficient at it.
Actually any help here would be great :)

Hi All,
Great thread, seems like I may be taking the wrong approach on this. When you are finding keywords that get 500 - 1000+ searches what is the average competition looking like. I have been getting optimized for with keywords that have small amounts of competition like 1000 - 2000 other websites on the same long tail however the average searches are well below the 1000 range.
Thanks for the insight!

I like to pick keywords that are just starting to get hot. Things that live in a popular niche yet they are just starting to become popular within that niche themselves.

I use Wordze, Wordtracker and SEO Elite , google's keyword tool is the best though since it's free :)

Welcome to the forum trougsaerog :)
You are right as Google Keyword Tool is a good one. Just making sure that your keywords/phrases are targeted in a way that is someone easy to rank with organically.
Good luck!

One thing you can do is learn from your own success. Some tools out there allow you to see which search terms people who have visited your site used to get there. For instance, Google Analytics has that capability. Squidoo has it built in. You may have included a great keyword in your page or one of your lenses or articles quite by accident. If you find that to be the case, use it in more of your advertising.

Thank you for sharing that insight Andy. That is a great way to look at it if using more than 1 keyword in your content. :)
