Yes it is! It lets the search engines know that there is new content on the internet for the spiders to come and crawl. :)

Make sure you ping your sites anytime you add or edit your content. You can also ping your articles and cl***ified ads once approved. Make sure that they are approved first though :)

Sending out a ping is like raising the red flag on the mailbox to tell the mailman
you have new mail to be sent. In this case, you are telling the weblog tracking sites that your site has been updated.
