I have had several questions on how to do this - so I will post this for everyone to use:

Hiding Links in websites, blogs, etc:

<a href="http://www.WebsiteDomain">Name of Product</a>

Everyone will be able to see: "Name Of Product"

This is a link for your signature in most forums including this one:

Name Of Product (http://www.WebsiteDomain)

These are great to keep in your favorites. If you are just starting out, you will continue to forget these easily. Keep them in a handy place where you have easy access;)

I just need some clarification. What's the difference between the arrows > and the brackets [] ? When and where do you use them?
thanks

Thanks, Johnjmat.
But...this is where you can tell how new I am...what's a bb code?

BBCode is an implementation of HTML (which describes the structure of text-based information in a document—by denoting certain text as links, headings, paragraphs, lists, etc. So by using the [ ], < > it will offer control over what and how something is displayed and read.

Hope this helps a little:)

So much information! Thanks for the help in clarifying everything. I'm so glad forums like this exist. It's so nice to feel supported without having to pay-up in advance, like so many services ask you to do.

Thanks again!

This is the best thing about forums. You are able to find a wealth of information on almost any topic that you are trying to increase your understanding on.:)

from wikipedia

Bulletin Board Code or BBCode is a lightweight markup language used to format posts in many message boards. The available tags are usually indicated by square brackets surrounding a keyword, and they are parsed by the message board system before being translated into a markup language that web browsers understand—usually HTML or XHTML.

also bb code can make your link clickable. they dont have to copy and paste our link to open. just click and it will go to the destination :D

I've also been saving mine in a Wordpad document on my desktop for easy reference. I kept on forgetting where to find the sample code to use as a template, so I just decided to create my own website code and save a copy so I'd have it readily available for future use.

I too did this for the longest time. Its nice to be able to open it up with your info inside and copy and paste where you need it:)

I'm just really glad that I can copy and paste these codes because the technical aspect of linnks makes me crazy. I didn't understand any of that johnjimat. Nor do I necessarily want to...at least at this point. Hopefully it will get easier.

haha we do not need to detail it. just know the basic is enough. if you know how to use it, then that would be good.

That is why it is a good idea to just have it saved in a file or on your desktop for reference. It is a tool that we use everyday, but don't necessarily need to memorize the actual code. You can just copy and paste your links in and type in your text. Pretty nifty! :)

rosa41

Just a quick update. It is getting easier. I still don't understand the technical part but recognizing the code and what might be wrong with it is definitely much easier.
I used to worry alot about the links and if I was doing something wrong. Now I just copy and paste, check the link, and if it doesn't work go back and redo it. Links are key in this business but they are not the end of the world. You can always go back and check them later.
I now make that a habit because I found some bad links in my first five or so articles.
Do your best and get it out there...because everything can be fixed.

Forum Admin 2
07-25-2009, 08:03 PM
Always check your links before submitting to submission sites. Once it is approved its harder to fix the links. Its best to have them working the first time around. I have seen way to many good articles out in the search engines with broken links. The sad thing is they were on the first 2 pages of google. Sales are lost because of this :(

Sounds like you are right on track Rosa! Soon you won't even have to think about it - as it will become second nature. :)

Does this also work this affiliate links? I'm guessing you would add it here:

...// www.WebsiteDomain/affiliateID]Name of Product[/url]

I've tried variations of this, I think, but with no success. I finally gave up trying to use Clickbank hoplinks 'cuz I couldn't get them to work anywhere --either the entire code shows up, or when I try to click on it, my affiliate ID is nowhere to be seen.

On the good side, I can link to my blog to my heart's content so I'm focusing almost exclusively driving to my blog or Squidoo. Never had a problem with either. But links with affiliate ids are giving me headaches.

Forum Admin 2
07-30-2009, 05:22 AM
Clickbank has changed and have added a shield to your hoplink. This is to help with less theft of affiliate links.

This is the link to use for articles etc. The other is for signatures in forums.

<a href="http://www.WebsiteDomain">Name of Product</a>

So you will paste your hoplink where it says "website domain". Then put what you would like the visitor to read where it says "name of product".

Let us know if you need further help with this :)

Under profile there is only location, interests etc.

Peter,

If you are talking about adding to your profile signature, go into the "user cp" top left of the forum. Here it will take you into your profile area. Click on edit signature, this is where to add your information.

Let us know if you need further help :)

Always check your links before submitting to submission sites.
I totally agree. I once submitted a blog with the wrong link. The link was valid, but it was the wrong affiliate link. Someone thinking they were going to get information about one product actually would get another. It was no big deal since I caught it right away. If it had been Ezine Articles (which doesn't allow affiliate links anyway), it could've taken over a week to get changed.

Forum Admin 2

I am glad you had caught that. When I first started out, I had the wrong link within an article. The sad thing is, my article made it to front page of Google. I was so excited that it was there, and soon realized the link was broken. The submission site did not allow you to modify your article. So I had to do some major quick writing to get other articles out. This saying is very true: "You learn by trial and error" :)

Hi all, I have a general question about signatures. I have selected some keywords for articles I have done for the course I am doing. Is it a good/must idea to use the keywords in all signatures for Ezine,Squidoo etc?

Thanks
Teddy.

Moderator 1
06-06-2010, 09:15 PM
You don't have to especially if it is not a ranking forum or site. If you want it to rank then definately yes. Ezine you will put it in your bio/resource box and with Squidoo there is no signature per se, but you will put it in your anchor text and your call to action. :)

You have some great keywords in your signature right now Teddy. Make sure you are utilizing them in all your marketing techniques :)

I've seen a particular graphic in quite a few Squidoo lenses and I'm wondering if anyone knows how to replicate it...?
Someplace on the lens there will be two arrows -sometimes flashing -pointing down with the words "My Favorite Link" Under this flashy graphic there is an oval hyperlink of some sort...

I can't seem to find an option to insert this in my Squidoo lens but I've seen it a lot. Anybody have any idea how this is done?

Thanks,
~Paul

Once you sign into your lens and click on edit, go to the top and click on add modules. Click on the "most popular" and look for the one that says "big arrow link". Reorder your modules of where you would like it placed and you are good to go :)
