Somewhere along the line, I read someone talking about pinging an article or a lens when it is updated. Can someone explain this to me? Thanks!

This is a great way to get noticed. Ping each time you your articles get published, yoru lenses when updated, blogs wehn updated, etc.:)
Here are 3 that I use - http://technorati.com/ping/

Do you ping the article or the website?
Forum Admin 2
05-30-2009, 05:49 AM
I ping them all. So once your article has been accepted, ping it. After you publish your lens after updating, ping. Do the same with your websites and blogs. :)

Yes, you can ping all of your work. Your articles, lenses, blogs, etc. :)

This may be a dumb question, but what is pinging?

Hey, good question. You ping an article, a website, blog, or lens when you let the web crawlers in goole know that s.th. is new on the web, so this can help with page ranking. Two useful sites to go are. You ping also after every up-date, important!

Thank you for the help, but one more questions, are the sites only for blogs, or can I put in a website or article also?

Now see, this is showing all the more value in what can be found on this forum. I don't remember reading anything about pinging from before (altho honestly, my memory's not the best, for sure!), and here is something useful about it right here. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the reminder about pinging, I usually forget to do that after I update. I think I will put a sticky note on my computer, maybe if I look at it all the time it will become ingrained.

I'm just at the stage of learning, signing up and then doing the pinging for my articles and sites. I need to ping each individually with each site, right?

Whenever you update your website, blogs, etc. you should ping them. Once your articles have been approved ping these also along with your ads if you have them. Articles and ads should only be pinged the one time for these are ones that we do not update like we do websites and blogs :)

I would like to know how to ping my blog since I write articles at least once every week in each of my 5 blogs. I have two of them in spanish and three in english.
Thanks!

Here are 3 that I use. Just add what they are requesting. Normally it would be your url. Some ask for the url, and title :)

When you talk about pinging, are you refering to RSS feeds? If so how and what do you add to squidoo when you have created a blog? I know you have to add it to the RSS mudule but I am usure what to type in it! I am very new at all of this forum, article and blog writing. Odd really seeing that I can create a basic webpage!
Forum Admin 2

You do not have to add these to your RSS. You can click on the links above and just fill in what they are requesting. Very fast and simple :)

Hey all,
Here is a little technique that I use for the Twitter users out there. Whenever I update a web site or article I imediately Tweet a message and a link to that site which gives it about 10 -20 fresh hits after the ping. I am not sure why it works so well but it does!

Anyone have a link or tutorial for help?

You can use http://technorati.com/ping/, http://pingler.com/index.php, and http://pingoat.com/
Just add your url and what they are requesting and you are good to go :)
Only use this when updating your lenses, websites, blogs, articles when approved, and ads.

Hhmmm, I've been pinging whenever I update my blog or write a new lens on Squidoo, but I've never done my articles. How do I find the direct link to my articles in EzineArticles, GoArticles, Article Alley, diectories etc.? Or is it a link to websites that have downloaded/accessed the articles? I've never looked -- didn't know there were links to the actual articles in the directories. I can see how that would be helpful in getting more exposure.
Oh, so much to learn ...
Forum Admin 2

Majority of the time after you sign into your submission site you can click on your article. This will bring up your article. Once it is up use the url provided and ping. Normally ezine sends you an email to let you know your article is approved so your link is provided.
Let us know if you need further explanation :)

True Forum Admin2. I finally figured pinging out and use the three mentioned above. After article is approved. Sign in, usually there is a "view" button, then copy URL at top.

I think pinging was originally created to test connections. If you weren't sure if some component on your computer was connected correctly, you could ping it to test the connection. I didn't know the search engines used pinging until coming to this forum. Thanks, all. :)
Forum Admin 2
09-24-2009, 04:11 PM
I agree Andy. The other purpose is to let the engines know that there is new content to be indexed :)

When you ping, you may find your content, websites, blogs, ads, etc. further up in the search engine ranks anywhere from 6 - 24 hours on most occasions. Works very well and gets you more traffic! :)

I have a really stupid question, but one others who are new to online marketing may be wanting more information about:
What is pinging and how does it work?
Forum Admin 2
10-25-2009, 09:59 PM
Pinging is getting the attention of the web crawlers to let them know that there is new information to be looked at. It is also letting the crawlers know that the particular ip address exists.
So the far the best ones to use are the ones listed above and:
http://pingler.com/
http://feeds.technorati.com/ping/
Let us know if you have any other questions:)

Can someone tell me if we can only ping from one pinging source. What i mean is if i ping my website from pingler.com can i then go over to mypagerank.net.
If this makes sense can we ping our sites with more than one pinging source at the same time.

Yes, Jamie you can send to several ping sites. You may notice that some ping services may overlap, but it will just give you a message saying that you can only do it once a day or when there is an update. So you are good to go! :)

You should try to get into the habit of pinging everytime you change your content this keeps you on track.
Yes Teddy!! These are called social bookmarking sites. There is Digg, Stumbleupon, Del.icio.us, Reddit and Furl.
If you haven't already, check them out and add them to your marketing campaigns :)

It really shouldn't take too long to ping. Possibly try using Mozilla Firefox if you aren't already. Also, make sure your computer is clean. Delete your temporary files, etc.

Hi Guys whilst doing all my pinging i came across this suidoo lense on free pinging sites thought it might help people. http://www.squidoo.com/Ping-Tools. I could not seem to get pingoat to work says you have to put the text from a image below but there's no image.

Hey Jamie, funny you say that Pingoat asks for an image and it doesn't appear. I am just busy pinging and have come across the same problem but it is not the first time. I managed to ping one article and was busy doing the second when I got this problem. Hmmmmm....
