I was wondering what other people here do to keep themselves motivated in their business. I'm talking about practical steps, not just concepts.

For example, something that I do is that I have a reminder in my Yahoo mail account that sends me an e-mail every day. I've put a link into that reminder so once I open the e-mail, I can just click on the link and I'm on the MOIS page. Then all I have to do is get into the action plan and off I go to the next step.

I've noticed that a lot of resources encourage you to keep motivated by having a "why" or specific goal/s in mind as you build your business. Frankly, that doesn't work so well for me, but this doesn't mean that my goals aren't important to me. I suspect that I'm not the only person who's like that.

What ideas do you guys have?

I basically have a to-do list that I try to follow each day. As you begin to build your business bigger, it takes these reminders to keep me focused and on top of it:)

Hi MargaretJones,

I think that this is a great question because your plan of attack and your motivation is the heart of your business. The majority of small businesses fail because people simply stop trying. Everyone has there own system to keep on truckin but the important thing is that you have one.

I am a goal setter and a list builder. My monthly goal is a monetary value that I want to reach and then i create short term goals that will help me obtain that monetary goal. An example would be to write 2 articles today or have seven articles and a new squidoo lens by friday.
I am just one of those people that have to have a plan, I will usually spend Sunday planning my week so that I have a clear idea of what I need to complete for that week. It helps me be more productive with the limited time that I have.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the great input. I like the idea of planning out a week ahead, but I really haven't gotten to the point where I could do that properly--I'm just following the MOIS plan for the time being. I suppose once I really get into the drill of things I'll know what to do to plan ahead.

This is a really good question, since a lot of people get discourage when they first start and simply give up. I actually do several things to keep myself going.

I kind of have OCD when it comes to planning my week. I have an planner where I write everything I want to accomplish in a particular day, or even throughout the week. I set goals for myself and I never lower them, if I can't reach does goals I don't cry about it. I simply write the reason why I didn't achieve it, and the two words I choose to describe them are:

excuse

or

challenge

If I break up my goal into either of these words, then I really get myself thinking in a positive way. If a goal is too big, what I do is I creat mini-goals throughout a set period of time and I make sure I hit my mini-goals, because if I don't I will not be moving closer and closer to my true goal, but rather further away from it.

Hope this helps. :)

I always keep a "to-do" list. This helps me stay focused and not forget anything. Everyone is different. Just do what works best for you!

I think key to success as to all business is to work hard and spend the effort into getting it up and running.

Here its all about putting in the time into doing the daily task required to drive traffic to your website. Success in marketing is all about driving traffic to the website successfully.

So set up a daily plan and stick to it. If you can't complete write down a reason behind it and then scrutinise it.

When I first started, there were soooo many things to sign up for just to get things going. I realize how all of that is important now of course, but wasn't really sure how to organize my daily routine. I for one am a perfectionist and finally found a good way to do it.

First I prioritized my short and long term goals... what I want out of all this. Of course there are emails to check, etc...

Then I took my list of login's and p***words and used that as a guide. Those were the things I wanted to check either daily, weekly or biweekly. It really helped!

Now I have a check off list for each campaign.... it really works for me. Just find what works for you and try to stick to it and it will become routine.

Hope this helps! :D

WordPress, Blogger, Squidoo, Yola, Webs, and Weebly are all good ones. You can also decide to get your own domain or just use the free sites. :)

These are all great ideas. Even though I set goals and am pretty good at achieving them, I still have days where I realize that I forgot something and have to revamp my schedule. Those days are frustrating but they are becoming less prevalent. One day at a time is what I keep telling myself.

if you want to build a list. you can create a squeeze page and build your own list

I've found when I started that I couldn't keep track of everything I signed up for much less what I needed to do next. Now I have a sign-in and p***word form I made up and also keep a list next to me when working to make notes about what I forgot or need to check on. There always seem to be a million details. That's true of any business.

Hey quick question for anyone who knows.
I need a better definition of a squeeze page and how and where it fits in to my website or lens or hoplinks etc. I understand it's a sales page that you want people to see before they get to the product page but how and where do you put it. A link to a link to a link?

And do you have to have an opt-in? I'm not at that point yet because I still haven't figured out the Wordpress and Blog thing. I'm unsure of what is most important now. More links, opt-ins, more articles, my blog or a website?

I have a list and am fairly organized but still tend to go round in cirlces sometimes.
Any pointers? Anyone? Please?

My problem is that I get side tracked so easily. I go to look up something on the internet and the next thing I have clicked through to the next and the next thing and suddenly 2 hours later I still havn't done what I set out to do.

I think my challenge is to start trying to be more focused. The dedication is there ... just lacking the application :(

I felt this was better than typing an outline for you Rosa,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squeeze_page

As far as pointers in trying ot stay focused, make a list that you know you can accomplish in the amount of time you have to give. Once this is done, step a way from the computer or update your forums or content. This is an area that is always time consuming :) Just a thought!

I'm new to most of this and am officially on my 27th day of affiliate marketing. I have consistently done something to help grow my business everyday. I take the "do something to improve at least 1% today" approach. I promised myself that I would do at least ONE thing every day to help my business grow - post a link, place an ad, write an article, SOMETHING that I know promotes my website or links. I think the trick is to just get in there and do the one thing, that way you may gain a little momentum and do more, and if not, at least you can go to bed that night knowing you did SOMETHING.

Try not to look at is as a job that you are going out to, this is your business and most actually enjoy it. That is a good idea though - making an effort to do something everyday is a good goal. You can build on that. :)

Hello Bella,

I like to set goals for myself. If i set goals for myself I tend to be more p***ionate about what I am doing. Once I reach this goal I will reward myself with maybe a day off, a nice dinner something like that. At the same time i try not to rush through everything and take one day at a time. Well I hope this has helped.

Overall setting and planning short term and long term goals is a cruial part for building any kind of business. I personally like to keep a little notpad and I will write what I will accomplish day by day. Sometimes I forget to do this but it definitely helps and you feel like you accomplished more as well by making a list on what needs to get done.

Being organized helps your business as well just by keeping all your "business stuff" together and cleaning up your work area.
