I'm curious, I have heard this term before and I think I know what
it means, however, if anyone can explain a bit more and save myself
so I don't sound like a complete moron :)
Thanks in advance.

Are you asking about link cloaking? If so, it is when you hide, shorten, customize your links so that you don't have to show your URL the way it is with affiliate links and such, it makes it look better in some cases and also protects you somewhat from fraud.
Does this answer your question? If not, I can go into further detail. A lot of our members are using offto.net and tinyurl for cloaking. :)

OK...definitely need more explanation. I understand the work cloaking but don't know how or why fraud is involved. Can someone steal your sale if your URL is showing? Are affiliate links not good?
This brings me back to what's more important. Writing articles, creating links and backlinks or protecting what you already have out there? Where does this rank on the importance meter?

There are those out on the internet who looks at ones url and adds their own id by removing yours. This is one reason clickbank has added a cloaker.
If you do not want to show the ugly url, you can change it into an anchor text. If you want to further cloak your clickbank id, you can do this also.
I think I answered your last question under one of your other topics Rosa :)

There's a lot of things a competitor can do if you don't cloak your affiliate links, one is they can track you down and do research on what you are doing so you want to make sure you're id is hidden.

ok cloaking affiliate link is very important to prevent someone from hijacking our commision. i strongly not recommended you to use shorten url services like tinyurl because they are not cloak your affiliate they just shorten your affiliate link even if your affiliate link still show in the browser. for the best way to cloak your link is like this:
first you have to use software like affiliate warrior or cloaker buzz (you can get it from me if you want).put your affiliate link and create page. for example:
xxx.money.clickbank.net
then when you create you put any name you desire for example money.htm
after that upload the file to your server.
this is your website:
yourwebsite.com
when you upload to your server, it will be like this:
yourwebsite.com/money.htm
when you click on the link, your affiliate link will never show in browser, it just show in your loading bar. so anyone cant steal your commission.
you can check your link if it right or not at the loading bar :)
so with this method is not just to prevent someone from stealing your commission, it will look you like a Proffessional instead :)

Thank you for the detailed explanation! Very helpful. I'm just wondering why, if this is so prevelant, it hasn't been talked about more often and in more places? Maybe I don't get around enough.
Question about the clickbank cloaking? Is it adequate or is it just better to use one that johnjimat suggested? And are they free?
