Tracking a Sale

Hey, WHooooHoooo! Just made my first sale! Can't really believe it yet because it's been such a struggle for me. However, now I would like to know how to track the sale I did make. Clickbank has some stats on the actual sale...do they have stats on where the sale came from? What site or even keyword? Maybe that's too much to ask for! Right now my head if full of all the articles, blogs, website, forums etc. that I wrote and really don't know where to start. I don't know much about anything relating to tracking other than that it's key to my business.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi Rosa,

The way that I track my sales with clickbank is by using a tracking ID. When you create a hoplink you have an option of also creating a tracking ID. If you ***ociate that tracking ID and hoplink to a website by simply keeping a spreadsheet of your tracking ID's and the corisponding website you can at least see what site it came from.

When you create your hoplink in Clickbank, also create a TID (tracking ID) and they will add that to the link so that it is easier for you to track where exactly the sale and/or your traffic came from.

I ended up going through all of my articles, blogs, lenses, ads, press releases and changed them... it's not a big deal at the beginning, because you don't care where it came from ~ cuz hey ~ you made a sale, right?! Whooo hoooo! Congrats by the way! That is soooo GREAT!!!!!!! But in the long run you want to know... so it is best to go back now and change at least some of them.

It is a good idea to use the tracking id's so you know where the sales are coming from and you can tweak your campaign where ever need be. If it is doing well, keep updating, if not doing so well either update or shut it down. :)

Hey rosa41,

I think that you got your answer from Kitkat and my process was a lot like hers! I didnt realize what the traking ID was until I had an " ah ha" moment a few months into marketing. I also went back and added links with the tracking ID so that I have better metrics on where my sales are coming from.

I'm still a bit foggy on ways, if any, to track keywords other than hoplinks. Or should everything end up in a hoplink? Obviously, hasn't really clicked for me yet! I think linking has been the part that doesn't make sense to me as far as purpose or objective.

The goal is to make a sale. That requires a hoplink, for example. I want to increase the rank of my website so I write lenses and articles and blog pages and other stuff that links back to my site which contains hoplinks. That means that customers need to click at least two times, usually three, to get to the product...and that doesn't include a squeeze page. Is this about right?
Cross linking articles and blogs will also add another required click. I feel like I'm going in circles.
Some articles I have two different links, as well. Is this right or smart?

Thanks for all the input. It took me two days to change all of the links but well worth it. I'm now wondering if there is anything else that I might be missing or should be doing. Do I now keep detailed records of clicks and hops for everything or just check regularly and go with the ones that are working?

Its a good idea to keep a record of your hoplinks. Also by checking your clicks will help you to know if you have enough promoting, and if you do, then it will help decide if it is a good product to stay promoting :)

ooh, I like the idea of tracking the key word as well...I'm new to this also and could use all the help I can get. Has anyone else used this to track their keywords? Or is it best to just know where the sale came from and maybe keep a log of what key words you used in your source?

If you keep track of your hoplink you should be able to tell what keywords were being used. I find it useful to list my hoplink and then all the keywords/phrases underneath it so that I know what ones I am using. I also add my articles, blogs, ads, etc to that list for which I use that hoplink. Easier to keep track of everything.

Don't forget that clickbank has the tracking also. :)
