Here's How To Avoid The 3 Most Common Affiliate Mistakes.
Mistake number 1: Choosing the wrong affiliate.
Many people want to earn from affiliate marketing as fast as possible. In their rush to be part of one, they tend to choose a bandwagon product. This is the kind of products that the program thinks is “hot”. They choose the product that is in demand without actually considering if the product appeals to them. This is not a very wise move obviously.
Solution:
Pick a product that appeals to you. Then do some research about that product to see if they are in demand. Promoting a product you are more p***ionate about is easier than promoting one for the sake of the earnings only.
Mistake number 2: Joining too many affiliate programs.
Since affiliate programs are very easy to join, you might be tempted to join multiples of affiliate programs to try and maximize the earnings you will be getting. Besides you may think that there is nothing wrong and nothing to lose by being part of many affiliate programs.
Solution:
The best way to get excellent result is by joining just one program that pays a 40% commission at least. Then give it your best effort by promoting your products enthusiastically. As soon as you see that it is already making a reasonable profit, then maybe you can now join another affiliate program.
Mistake number 3: Not buying the product or using the service.
As an affiliate, you main purpose is to effectively and convincingly promote a product or service and to find customers. For you to achieve this purpose, you must be able to relay to the customers that certain product and service. It is therefore difficult for you to do this when you yourself have not tried these things out. Thus, you will fail to promote and recommend them convincingly. You will also fail to create a desire in your customers to avail any of what you are offering.
Solution:
Try the product or service personally first before you sign up as an affiliate to see if it is really delivering what it promises. If you have done so, then you are one of the credible and living testaments aware of its advantages and disadvantages. Your customers will then feel the sincerity and truthfulness in you and this will trigger them to try them out for themselves.

Research is a big one for affiliates to learn. If you do your homework you will find that there are great products to promote that may provide you with success. Its not easy for one to try all products that you would like to promote that is why researching all avenues of that product is critical.
Thank you for sharing John, your post is outstanding :)

Thanks johnjimat. It's good to be reminded at times. The longer I am in this industry, the more I'm realizing how important research is and also how much time it saves you. Well you are well versed in any particular area, writing an article is considerably more fluent and, in the end, will save you time and hopefully make you more money.

I agree. I am beginning to think that MOIS is a tad bit bandwagonish, though I still think it is a great product, especially for newbies.
I see many affiliates pushing products with very little information or insight, other than what the product/companies provide. I stated a blog about MOIS and blogged about it as I went through it. I'm still rather new, but not sure if it has caught on, or if it ever will. I do try to be honest, but I feel sometimes my honestly scares off a potential customer. Any thoughts about it? Its good to list the pros and cons as long as the product you are promoting has more pros than cons. The other way to look at it, is the cons something that is really going to effect the customer? There are alot of products out that have things that need to be fixed. I personally like to see a little bit of both so that I can make the decision myself. If the pros out weigh the cons, and the cons are minor, I will try it out myself :)

I totally agree with the advice regarding pros and cons. You shouldn't be promoting a product unless you believe it has more pros than cons and the cons should be something that can either be worked around or aren't really a factor. I'm new to affiliate marketing and have found I am most successful with products I personally believe in and enjoy promoting.

If you are not happy with what you are promoting, it will show in your delivery. Research what you are most interested in. For this will show in your writing, the excitement in what and how you feel. This is what draws your potential customers.:)

When I do research about a product as a consumer, I often find items that are reviewed, but always question the validity of a reviewer. I know it sounds crazy, but is there something that we can imply that shows our reputation as a seller? Kind of like Ebay's rating system or even Amazon. Just wondering!

Thank for the info, I think I will start doing better if i can just take my time with one product at a time. build better blogs, and promote more.

The thing about MOIS is ~ is that it is a learning course. You are getting either a free website or have options to get the Pro Plan sites... either of these are OPTIONS. You don't have to use either... it is a tool to teach you the system... how to become an affiliate. I know you are not bashing it, but if you have no idea what affiliate marketing is and you needed some REAL guidance.... how else are you going to do it? I can not say enough great things about it. It taught me soooo much and although, I try to spend some time in the forums, my business has taken on a life of its own... if not for a course teaching me with the tools and resources ~ I would not be where I am today, knowing what I know.
Best of luck to everyone! :D

Once you get the steps down paulval, you will be able to add more products and move at a faster pace while promoting. Don't forget to keep a log of what you are doing with each product. Such as links, blogs, ads, etc. :)

Thank you for the advise. I have been promoting a lot of products but think I will just concentrate on a couple. There are so many affiliates out there you can get lost. Love learning about all this and I joined mois and found it the most unreal and helpful system I have ever seen..

It is easy to become overwhelmed if you are just learning internet marketing. Only promote what you know you can handle right now. Once you learn all the techniques you will be able to add more products to your list. By that time you will completely understand how the process works and will be able to market with ease. :)

I definitely agree with #1 and #2. If you don't really care about what you're promoting, your reader will definitely know it. And I personally cannot get excited about hundreds of products to promote, so I know I would have to limit myself to the number of programs. The only thing is that it might be hard to actually try ever program you promote. I do recommend trying at least some of them; the others you can research enough to determine if they look like a good deal.

There is a lot of controversy over this topic. It is nice to try some things out if you can, but you can't always try everything. If you are new to marketing, it is recommended to just market a minimal amount of products so that you can become an expert in whatever area you are working with first. :)

Regarding the controversy... one of the problems that I believe affiliate marketing has created is that it is making it tough to find a totally unbiased review of a product that uses affiliate marketing. For instance, pick a money making program you want to research and enter, "PROGRAM NAME review" or "PROGRAM NAME scam," and you usually get a bunch of links that are more about promoting the product rather than actually reviewing it. Even searches with "scam" in them return a promotion of the product. I think that's one of the reasons Ezine Articles has banned the use of the word "Scam" in all article titles.
That said, I've been a little guilty of the same thing. That's why whenever I write an article that is supposed to be a review, even if I want someone to click on my link, I try to include at least one downside to the program. It at least gives the reader something to go on other than, "This is the greatest product in the world!"

I am very glad that ezine has done this. If you are going to label an article with scam or fraud, back it up within the article of why or why not this product is considered not worthy:)

I agree, it is best to actually tell the visitor what the product is really about and not just talk in smoke and mirrors. We are all guilty of doing it at one time or another. Sometimes you even do it without even knowing your doing it.
Good luck! :)

Thank you for the tips. However, I have to disagree to your third tip to some extent. Not everybody has the money to but every product, try it and then promote although I can see the point that it will be a more effective way of marketing. But what if three product in a row, each of $50 does not give what you want and you just lost $150. Not everybody has that kind of investment but I still have to agree with the overview of the tip

Thank you for sharing your point of view eytanfb. Not everyone can purchase all the products that they would like to promote. That is why it is very important to do a thorough research before promoting any product. Through you research will find out if this product is in demand and how well
this vendor takes care of their customers.:)

Plus, you should always remember as an affiliate you are not selling the product - you are pre-selling. As Forum Admin 2 mentioned, it is a good idea to do your research and write a review, articles, blogs, etc. on your findings. :)
