We have had a few people inquire about the health of their lenses, so here is some explanation:

Lens Title:

You want to include your keyword/phrases in your lens title, your first paragraph, throughout the lens and in your anchor text.

Lens Intro Title:

This goes along with what I mentioned above. Your module title should have your keyword/phrase in it as well.

Intro Photo:

This needs to match your title tags. When you save the picture.... right click on the picture and "save as" whatever your keyword is. This helps.

Primary Tag:

This relates to your lens or you may need to add secondary tags that match your lens better. There are many debates on how many you should add - either a few or a higher number. You can do a test to see what works.

Last Published:

This is when you last updated your lens. If it has been a while, you should do it more frequently. Make sure you update your lenses so that the search engines pick your lens up and gets them ranked high.

Star Rating:

You have to get more traffic to your lens. You can do this by making sure your lens is in some of your forum signatures so that people will click on it and go to your lens.

Number of Tags:

Make sure you have a good amount of tags. It should tell you that you have a good amount as you are adding them.

Traffic:

This goes along with what I mentioned in the Star Rating section.

Module Titles:

Make sure you have your keyword/phrases in a couple of them. Make sure they are incorporated throughout.

Then there is the Squidaholic report:

This will tell you who is looking at your lens.

This will also help you with the social bookmarking sites like Digg or StumbleUpon, etc.

Don't get too excited if you have a couple that don't match up with their system, because it is just that a software program that matches the words up to their health checker, so it might actually be okay.

We are hoping that this helps anyone who had questions about this. If you have any more, please post them under this thread so we can all benefit from the information. :)

Nice pointers. I liked the one where you suggest to save images with a title that is similar or relates to specific keywords. Most people don't even think of that, but it does make sense since browsers also read images' titles, so it makes perfect sense to better our changes by doing something as simple s that. Thanks for the post.

I think it will help out quite a few members who are just learning to build a lens. Very helpful tips expecially with the keywords and where they should be placed within your content :)

Great Post. I just put up my first squidoo a few days ago. I know I would have been asking what all of the information in the Health Check field were for. :)

It is important for a lot of reasons Kent, but it helps with ranking in the search engines and squidoo itself. :)

Having a healthy lens is all fair and well. But, for me, I find that far too much work has to go into creating the lens for the amount of traffic that it gets. I would rather put out more articles (yip my pet hate!) particularly through ezine as I seem to get more traffic that way.

Mind you, maybe its also because I don't have an imagination to create inviting lenses :(

You will get better. One thing you have to remember, squidoo may not be something that you are really interested in using. That is okay, if you prefer blogs, then by all means build those. You need to be comfortable in what you are building, this is your business, do it the way you feel benefits you :)

You right though, I should not judge squidoo too harshly after all I have only done 2 lenses. I look at people like potpiegirl who literally runs her business off squidoo so there must be something too it. I just need to give it more attention me thinks :)

There is a lot you can do with squidoo. Plus they have so many helpful lenses to help you learn the in's and out's of building and adding on to them. I know I was very thankful for all that information. :)

Ezine is an awesome resource and I also use it to the fullest, it is actually the main source of traffic for my squidoo lenses. I have a couple of lenses that get a good share of google hits but not nearly as many as hits from articles that I have written. They all work hand in hand. Your articles will produce traffic and backlinks to squidoo ( or a blog or Website) which in turn will raise your lenses (blog or website's) ranking with Google. which then of course brings more traffic!

Affiliate Marketing is a typical "work at home" senario

write article, link in article goes back to webpage
wash clothes, wear them, wash clothes again

repeat again

:)
