Hey all,
I wanted to share a cool experience and hopefully you can get a slice of inspiration out of it.
I have been in the internet marketing game for about a year now and am by no means an expert however have run some successful campaigns. Me and my roommates had some people over last night and got a couple stragglers that came in with a crew from a local bar. I get to talking to this kid and it turns out that he has a condo in the building that I live in, cool. Get to talking to Noah a little more and find out that he is the creator of Twitpic. No BS!
25 years old, had an idea, brought it to life and just turned down an 7 figure buyout proposition from myspace.
Just a normal dude that had a great idea and ran with it, he averages 7mil impressions a day and gets about 4k in ad revenue daily.
Their are million dollar ideas everywhere, find one and dont stop until you bring it to life!

WOW!!! That is truly amazing how life works. Right place, right time. Thank you for sharing this experience with us TSF!
If you work hard enough towards your dreams, they too can come true, just have to have faith within yourself.:)
This is great inspiration, thanks TshirtFrank.
I suspect that he had a number of failed ideas previous to that though and some challenges to achieve the successful one but a strong enough vision to overcome them and stick at it - just guessing as I've not met him..
It is astonishing to know that the majority of people online are not making money. Most of them are probably not even recovering a fraction of their investment!
The majority of them fail is because they do NOT desire success badly enough! Most of them that DO succeed is because when they want something badly enough, they will find the means to obtain success no matter what!
On my web sites I talk about a few essential factors that will greatly help (even total newbies on the Internet): important principles that should turn you from a whimpering, small time site owner into a Internet juggernaut if the principles are put into practice.
Before anyone does anything, get this right first and build a solid foundation for your business - otherwise you will be attempting to build your house on sand.
How do I know, I've made these mistakes myself: chiefly, procrastination and distraction. Look for the opposites: Action and Focus
...of course a good idea always helps - which I guess is what you encapsulated in one single line at the end of your post.
Cheers

It is true that quite a few people who try this out do not follow through because they are not seeing results as fast as they would like. It is work and most of all a learning process.
We appreciate your insight Paul. :)

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the input you make some great points. I think that internent marketing is a lot like the real estate market of the late 90's and early 2000. You hear of people making a ton of money in these markets but when you look at the averages they are much lower than most think. A lot of people do the internet marketing thing as a side business, me included, so people are happy with the extra few k they make as a suppliment.
The great thing about internet marketing is that one does not have to make much of an investment at all and if you dont know what you are doing you should not be investing a lot until you have a full scope of your business.
I used to never spend money on hosting, outsourcing, or adwords but as I learned (not an expert by any stretch of the imagination), you see that there are plenty of market tests that you can do so that you know that outsourcing your articles and putting up some adwords campaigns will make you money and not take it out of your pocket.
Internet marketing is not hard, once you know the basics. All it takes is a tuned ear and a key understanding of the trends. Most people do not get past the point where they are doing a ton of work to make sales. All it takes is a few niches that sell themselves with little or no matainence to start to see the forest through the trees.
Hope this helps!

Thank you for your insight TSF - that sums it up very well. It is a big plus that you can start from almost nothing and reap the benefits all around. :)

Very detailed TSF!! The basics is a huge bonus in being able to understand the concept of marketing. Finding a niche you are interested in and not marketing everything you come across will defintely lessen the load of becoming successful.:)
